MFA is coming to the Norwich CTU instance of REDCap

19-Dec-2025

This is a reminder that Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be coming to the Norwich CTU instance of REDCap from Monday 12th January, 2026, as part of our ongoing commitment to improving data security and protecting sensitive research information. MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorised access, even if your password is compromised.

From the 12th of January, after entering a REDCap username and password, you will be presented with the following options, allowing you to either authenticate by receiving a six-digit code to your registered email address or by using an authenticator application.

REDCap MFA login screen

Note the check-box option to be remembered on the current device for seven days - ticking this will mean you are only prompted for MFA on that device once per week.

If you prefer to use an authenticator app rather than receive a code by email, you will need to install either Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, both of which are free and widely supported.

Microsoft Authenticator:

Once installed, you'll be guided through the authenticator setup process when you next log in to REDCap.
